HIC-Vac 2024 Human infection challenge in accelerating vaccinology

Adriana Tomic Shares AI-Powered Insights at HIC-Vac Annual Meeting 2024 in Liverpool

November 29, 2024.

We’re excited to share that Adriana Tomic from Atomic Lab spoke at the HIC-Vac Annual Meeting 2024 on November 28th and 29th. The event’s theme—“The role of human infection challenge in accelerating vaccinology”—spotlighted how human challenge models can rapidly advance infectious disease research.

Adriana presented the latest findings from our FluPRINT clinical study, showing how long-lived, influenza-specific CD8 T cells develop in vaccinated young children. She also highlighted how AI-driven and data-centric analyses reveal unprecedented details about T cell immunity, helping predict vaccine success in a 244-children cohort in The Gambia. These results hold promise for personalized vaccination approaches.

During our time in Liverpool, we were especially grateful to Professor Daniela Ferreira for giving us a tour of the newest human challenge facility at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM). The cutting-edge Human Challenge Facility underscores the power of combining clinical trials, state-of-the-art labs, and expert teams—all in one place. Seeing how they accelerate product testing with smaller-scale trials was truly inspiring, and we look forward to future collaborations.

And remember: “It’s all about the nose,” as nicely put by Daniela Ferreira—emphasizing the significance of mucosal immunity for better influenza vaccines, a focus for Atomic Lab as well. We left feeling inspired and look forward to future collaborations.

Thank you to HIC-Vac for bringing together innovators, clinicians, and scientists. Together, we’re reshaping vaccinology by merging human infection challenge models with AI-driven strategies. We can’t wait for the next meeting!
