Intelligent Oncology – The Potential of AI to Control Cancer

Intelligent Oncology Symposium 2024

September 6, 2024.

We recently wrapped up the Intelligent Oncology Symposium in Freiburg, Germany, where Adriana Tomic ( in 2022 as a presenter and this year as a scientific advisor for CRIION) played a key role in organizing this forward-thinking event. Supported by the Mertelsmann Foundation, the symposium brought together an incredible community of international experts dedicated to pushing the boundaries of AI-assisted oncology.

A special acknowledgment goes to Prof. em. Dr. Roland Mertelsmann, whose enthusiasm for advancing cancer research through novel technologies truly inspired everyone. His foundation’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration exemplified how innovation can transform patient outcomes.

It was also a pleasure to learn about the latest initiatives at CRIION and the global community’s dedication to data-driven approaches. We were especially impressed by Dr. Andre Dekker from Maastricht University Medical Center, Netherlands, who shared his insights on democratizing data and open science—listening to his talk was pure joy! And we couldn’t help but celebrate reconnecting with friends like Dr. Maria Kalweit (CRIION Head of Applied AI Research & Department of Computer Science, University of Freiburg) whose inspiring work highlights the power of AI to shape the future of cancer care.

Overall, the symposium underscored the importance of collaboration, open data, and cutting-edge research in propelling oncology into a new era. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this event a success!
